We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s surf contest, from the 67 surfers across the world (United States, Tahiti, Spain, Brazil, France, and Mexico), to the 4,038 voters who voted in support of their favorite groms, and our very own Gabb Ambassadors Jackson Dorian, Sierra Kerr, and Kelana Humphrey who helped select our winners.
3 winners—1 boy, 1 girl, and 1 crowd favorite—each received a $500 check, a new surfboard from Firewire Surfboards, and a Z2 phone from Gabb Wireless.
And so without further ado, we present the winners of the 2020 Gabb Life Surf Contest:
My dad took me out surfing for the first time when I was like 4 or 5. Over the years I just fell in love with it. I think I did my first contest when I was 6 and I started competing more and more as I got older. I’m 16 years old now and I’m on the USA Surfing National Jr. Team. I’ve won two national titles, I made the final at ISA Jr. World Championships competing for Team USA last year, and I plan on continuing to compete in the WSL Jr. Pros and QS events next year.
I was born in Texas and I started surfing when I moved to Hawaii 4 years ago. I love to surf because I love to travel and spend time in the ocean. I recently won Barton Lynch’s BL Blastoff competition and I’m looking forward to competing again when we are allowed to safely.
I started surfing when I was 5 years old because I go to the beach every day in the summer since my dad works on the beach patrol. My dad pushed me into my first wave and I have loved it ever since! I also love skateboarding, bodysurfing, and football. I have ADHD and surfing helps to keep me engaged and control my impulses. I love the thrill of big waves! I recently started surfing competitively this year and some of my accomplishments have been: 2nd place in shortboard in The Pearl Classic; 3rd place in shortboard and 4th place in longboard in the ESA; 2nd place in the Dean Randazzo Surf for a Cause; 1st place in the 10 and under shortboard in the Brigantine Surf Jam; and the youngest competitor to ever win the Super Heat in the Brigantine Surf Jam. I have raised $315 for the Funny Farm Animal Sanctuary by surfing a wave for every dollar donated and I have collected over 1,000 cans for the True Spirit Coalition over the holidays. I am on a mission to surf every day for a whole year and I am currently on day 219!
Submissions:
Participants were asked to submit a 1-minute (or less) surf video. A total of 67 videos were submitted between Dec. 1-18. Check out all of the videos here:

Voting:
On Dec. 20, the top 50 entries were posted on our website, where the public voted for their favorite videos.
On Dec. 28, the 5 entries with the most votes from the public advanced to the final round, along with 5 entries that were selected by the Gabb Life Contests Team.
Our Gabb Ambassadors, Jackson Dorian, Sierra Kerr, and Kelana Humphrey picked 1 boy (Ryan H.) and 1 girl (Erin B.) winner from the top 10, and the public voted for a crowd favorite (Carter D.).
